Those with the Passion to Transform Their Communities
FEF Founder and President Kyei Atupem
I want to share with you a story I am really excited about.
The idea for the Freedom Educational Foundation has always been on my mind.
I grew up in a family of seven in Ghana with a father who had an 8th grade level education and an uneducated mother.
In fact, at 8 yrs. old I was sent away by my parents to live with a family friend I never knew who did not care if I continued my education.
As a result, I lost 2 yrs. of formal schooling until what I call a “divine intervention”, I broke away at 10 yrs. old with an opportunity to continue my education.
But I always knew that education would make a huge difference in my life.
When I returned to Ghana several years ago, I saw a young boy selling mangoes on the street at a time when kids of his age should be in school.
I saw a boyhood version of myself in him, and the light bulb went on. I had to help!
