FEF approves sponsorship for students based on financial need who are highly self-motivated with a promising or a proven academic record of excellence.

Biography: Gifty is a brilliant student who has been supported by her mother over the years through her education. (The mother has been sick for the past 6 months due to a spinal cord problem, therefore unable to carry on with her petty trading) The father does not support her education or upkeep. In July this year a family member mentioned to a FEF Board member that  she is at a nursing college and may have to stop her schooling due to difficulties in paying her tuition / accommodation fees.

Alice Okyere Aboagye

Program of study – General Nursing

Biography: Alice is a serious student and very determined to be a nurse. However, she has challenges with getting money for her education.  Without the free Secondary boarding school education introduced by the government of Ghana she would have struggled to attend Senior High School. She has received admission to a nursing college, unfortunately her father has informed her that he could not assist her with the tuition / accommodation fees for the nursing college.  She worked during school in petty trading to raise some money and currently under FEF sponsorship.

Nathaniel Okyere Asomani

Biography: Nathaniel’s educational journey has been delayed due to difficulties in getting money to pay his tuition fees. He had to sometimes stop school and look for petty jobs / hawking to raise money. He has four other siblings. He is the only one who has been able to attend a university in his family.   He was able to attend and finish secondary school through the support of benevolent people he met in his community, in the course of doing petty jobs for some of them and the assistance he received from some of his teachers in the school.

Biography:The current Guardian is his 76 years grandmother who is a subsistence farmer / seamstress who does not have the means to support his education. He was able to attend secondary school through the support of a FEF Board member  after being recommended  by his school teachers and the Methodist Rev. Minister in his hometown.

Biography: Benjamin is a brilliant student who had 7 A(s) and 1 B out of eight courses after completion of his senior high school certificate examination. He was being sponsored by his parents until the father and mother died in 2015 and 2018 respectively. He has four other siblings. Life has been hard for him and the siblings ever since their parents died; this is because they are all of school age with no financial support. Through the support of his senior brother and sister, who worked at various part time jobs he was able to complete Senior high school. Prior to FEF sponsorship he had taken to working as a bread baker because he could not afford to attend the University even though his superb academic performance had gained him admission to highly competitive subsidized public University. Benjamin is finishing his post graduate studies in order to be a certified Architect.

Biography: Dorcas has two three other siblings-two boys and a girl- their mother died eight years ago.  After her death she had support from church members etc. to continue her education, unfortunately the support has dwindled over the years. Biograhy: Nyamekye is a small boy of 4 years. He is virtually an orphan because the mother has passed on and the father is nowhere to be found. Guardian has no hope of letting him go on with his education because the guardian is not working

Aseda Obeng Ampofo was officially adopted by the late Madam Joyce Obeng Ampofo the founder of the Orphanage Home in 2012 because he was an abandoned child with no trace of any family member. Unfortunately, Madam Joyce Obeng passed in February 2021 and left him in the care of the elderly sister Barbara, who is struggling financially to raise the resources to take care of Aseda and the other children in the orphanage. It will be very beneficial and necessary if he gets a sponsorship to assist in his welfare and educational progression.

Eric Munko was brought to the orphanage home three years ago. He was found wandering in one of the neighboring villages around the orphanage in Agona Swedru called Acheampong Ekura. He is a needy boy and was a school dropout due to financial challenges for his extended family who were supposed to cater for him. It was found out that he didn’t know his father but his mother is late. After investigation there was the need to place Eric Munko in a residential home. That is how Eric ended being in the Mother Care Orphanage

John’s educational journey has been successful up to this stage partly due to financial support he has been receiving from his school teachers. According to them he is a focused, hardworking student, and a highly intelligent student. He has been a needy student throughout is basic to senior high school. For him to enter University this year it took the financial support of teachers, unfortunately this is not sustainable in the long term. Out of the six children of his parents John is the first born and the first to attend University in his family

Unfortunately, as a single mother with five (5) children, his mother is not able to support his university education. He is the second child of his mother and the only child who has been able to get admission to the university; therefore, he will need sponsorship for his university education

 

Fauzia Osuman

Fauzia Osuman was found at Mandela market in Agona Swedru, in the Central Region of Ghana. She was then brought to Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU.) of the Ghana Police Services. As a result of investigation, it was found that she cannot identify her resident as well as her biological parents. Although she gave their names as stated above. After investigation there was the need to place Osuman Fauzia in a residential home. That is how she ended up at the Mother Cares Orphanage and Welfare Home. Academically she has shown progress since she was brought into the orphanage, therefore any assist to support her to pursue her education further will be appreciated.

Love is an academically good student. Her father has supported her education over the years. The government provision of free Senior High education made it possible for her to attend Senior high school. Unfortunately, her father had a stroke in April 2024 without any health insurance, he had to use the little funds he had to cover his medical needs; therefore, he is not able to support her nursing education. Without a financial assistant or sponsorship Love will not be able to pursue her nursing education.

Josephine is a an academically good student and is determined to pursue a professional study in Public Health Nursing. She is the first child of her parents who has been able to get admission into a tertiary institution and this was possible because of the free Senior High policy introduced by the government. Unfortunately, her father who is a tailor and mother who is a petty trader are not able to finance her training at the Nursing college because of their low income. Without a sponsorship it will be difficult for her to complete her education to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse in the future.

Priscilla’s educational journey has been successful up to this stage partly due to the free Senior High School policy introduced by the government. She resides at Ashifla Bisease a village within the Greater Accra region. According to the principal of the Senior High school she attended, she is good academically, but her parents are not able to support her university education because they are peasant farmer with low income.

Sonia is a an academically good student and determined to pursue a professional study at the University. However, she has challenges with getting money for her education. Without the free SHS policy introduced by the government she would have struggled to attend Senior High School. Her mother who is a petty trader has been supporting her and her other two siblings. Unfortunately, she does not have money to support her university education and had to borrow money in addition to the support she got from her high school teachers to pay for the initial admission fees, etc. Her high school principal has indicated that she will need sponsorship to attend the university. Without a sponsorship it will be exceedingly difficult for her to complete her university education.
